“All adventurous women do”

I’ve never been a TV person. I know, I know I’m weird. In my defense, I grew up having only like ten channels ( pretty embarrassing when friends came over) until 3 or so years ago when my family decided to join the 21st century. After relaxing and watching HBO’s new hit comedy series “Girls” this past week, I realized I had discovered a real gem. Juxtaposed to “Sex and the City” which is another favorite of mine, these girls are just as fun, but “Girls” is real—there’s no shopping sprees for $500 Christian Louboutin stiletto heels or perfectly choreographed sex scenes. Rather it’s four unique, lovable girls trying to find themselves through the ups and downs of finances, friendships, boyfriends, and all in between. Most of all I love the humor, the raw honesty, and the fact that it’s relatable.
And if you don’t like the show, I urge you do the following:
1. Give it a few more chances (took me 3 times). The first time I saw the show I caught a sex scene with my dad in the same room…yeah…
2. Watch the commentaries with the brillant director, Lena Dunham after the episodes. Learning more about the context and the characters adds to the appeal. I learned from a magazine interview that what is shown in the series is something at least one of girls has actually gone through too before in their own lives at some point.
3. If you still don’t like it, it’s probably because you’re not a girl in your twenties. So I give up trying to sway you.
